Faster Orthodontic Treatment Without Wires & Brackets

Straight teeth help protect your oral health by allowing for easier cleaning and providing a stronger bite, while also helping to boost your self confidence. However, the process can be off putting if you need to wear traditional metal braces. Metal braces can feel uncomfortable, look unattractive, and take at least two years for treatment time. Fortunately, at the office of Dr. Thompson and Drs. Starbody, there’s an attractive alternative to metal braces available to our patients called Invisalign.

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign is an orthodontic treatment system that uses a series of aligner trays made of patented SmartTrack® material. SmartTrack material is strong enough to gently move your teeth into the right position while being comfortable enough to wear for hours at a time as needed. Invisalign is often preferred over metal braces due to the benefits they offer in terms of appearance, treatment time, and convenience.

Benefits of Invisalign

  • Faster Treatment: Invisalign treatment can usually be completed in about half the time of traditional metal braces, usually between 12 and 18 months.

  • Proven Results: Invisalign’s SmartTrack® material and SmartForce® attachment features are clinically proven to provide precise control over tooth movement.

  • Comfortable, Custom Fit: Invisalign clear aligners are custom made to comfortably fit your unique smile, while being easy to put on and take off when needed.

  • Versatile & Effective: Invisalign can correct a number of orthodontic conditions including crossbites, crowding, rotation, post-orthodontic treatment relapse, open bites, gapped teeth, overbites, and underbites.

  • Virtually Invisible: SmartTrack material is almost completely transparent, making your orthodontic treatment discreet.

  • Removable: Invisalign is easy to remove on your own, so cleaning your aligner trays is easier, cleaning your teeth is easier, and dietary restrictions are eliminated. Simply remove your Invisalign clear aligners before meals, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning your teeth.

The Treatment Process With Invisalign

Consultation

Before you can begin orthodontic treatment with Invisalign, you’ll undergo a consultation with one of our skilled dentists. During your consultation, your dentist will thoroughly examine your teeth, review your medical history, and discuss your oral health goals with you. The information your dentist gathers will allow them to determine if Invisalign is the right treatment option for you.

Impressions & Imaging

Once you and your dentist have decided to move forward with Invisalign orthodontic treatment, impressions and images will be taken of your teeth and their current alignment. These impressions and images will be digitized and forwarded to a special laboratory owned by Invisalign, where they’ll be used as the blueprints for your custom-made aligner trays.

Installing Your Invisalign Aligner Trays

Once we receive your aligners, you’ll return to our Murfreesboro office, where our dentists will check the fit of the first set of aligners to ensure your treatment will be effective. Your aligners will pop onto your teeth with ease, requiring no anesthetic. Once we’ve made sure your aligner trays fit comfortably and securely, we’ll send you home with the rest of your aligner trays.

Wearing Your Invisalign Clear Aligner Trays

For effective treatment, you’ll need to follow the guidelines for wearing your Invisalign trays set by Dr. Thompson and Drs. Starbody. Some of those guidelines are as follows:

  • Wear each set of your custom-made Invisalign trays for at least 22 hours per day for the prescribed amount of time.

  • Don’t eat or drink anything other than cool water when wearing your Invisalign clear aligner trays.

  • Take your Invisalign out before cleaning your teeth.

  • Store your Invisalign clear aligners in their case

  • Clean your aligner trays every day by soaking them overnight in a mixture of three parts lukewarm water and one part white vinegar. You can also use a solution of equal parts hydrogen peroxide and lukewarm water, or lukewarm water and Invisalign cleaning crystals.

  • Rinse your aligners before putting them back in.

  • Clean your trays with lukewarm water, a soft-bristled toothbrush, and a gentle antibacterial soap or toothpaste.

  • Remove your aligners from front to back to avoid tearing them.

  • Follow any additional guidelines for caring for your Invisalign trays that Dr. Thompson and Drs. Starbody provide.
